GEDA

GEDA for supermarkets

Keep the queue moving.

Scan each item with a barcode scanner or search by name. Take cash or mobile money, put a cart on hold when a customer goes to fetch their purse, and count each till's drawer at close.

No card needed.

Example screen. Example of the till after a barcode scan: the search or scan field, a cart of three items with the newest highlighted, and a total of seven hundred and ninety-eight Leones.

What a busy grocery counter has to get right.

  • The queue is out of the door and every item is typed by hand.

Scan the barcode and the item is in the cart. F1, F2 and F3 take cash, mobile money or credit.

    At the till
  • A customer finds they left their purse in the car, and everyone behind waits.

Put their cart on hold with a note, serve the next person, and resume it when they are back.

    Held carts
  • Two tills, one cash box, and nobody can say whose count is short.

Each till has its own register. Each is opened and closed on its own, and the count is compared with what it should hold.

    Tills and counts
  • The shelf says twelve and the book says thirty.

Count the shelves in the app, a full count or a spot check, and see what is off before anything is changed.

    Stock and reorder
  • A cashier gives a discount the owner never agreed to.

Set the limit. Past it, a manager or owner has to sign in on that till to ring the sale.

    Tills and counts
  • Reorder day means walking the aisles with a notebook.

Low-stock items are flagged at their own reorder level. Raise a purchase order to the supplier, or import a new line from a CSV file.

    Stock and reorder

Scan, tap a tender, hand over the receipt.

A barcode scanner that types like a keyboard works with no setup. If a code is not in the loaded list, the till looks it up for you.

  • Scan, or search by name or barcode
  • Cash, mobile money or credit on F1, F2 and F3
  • A receipt with your shop's logo and details
  • Paid in, paid out and a mid-shift X report without closing the till
Example screen. Example of the till after a barcode scan: the search or scan field, a cart of three items with the newest highlighted, and a total of seven hundred and ninety-eight Leones.

Park a basket. Serve the next customer.

Hold a cart with a note so you remember whose it is, then resume it from the list when they come back.

  • Add a note to each held cart
  • Resume it onto the till, or discard it
  • Held carts are listed for the register session that is open
Example screen. Example list of two held carts, each with the cashier's note, item count and total, ready to resume.

A register for each till, counted when it closes.

Add a register for every till in the shop. Each cashier counts the drawer blind at close, and the variance against what it should hold is shown on that session.

  • Add a register per till on the shop's page
  • The count is typed before the expected cash is shown
  • A Z report prints at close, with the variance
  • Every past session has its own page, with its variance
  • A discount limit, with manager sign-in past it
Example screen. Example of two tills closed for the day, each with the counted cash, the expected cash and the variance. Till 1 matches; Till 2 is sixty Leones short.

Know what is on the shelf, and what to buy.

Count by the shelf, see which items are low, then order from the supplier. A new product list can come in from a spreadsheet.

  • Stock take: full, by category or a spot check
  • Low stock flagged at each product's reorder level
  • Purchase orders to your suppliers
  • Change prices by percent or amount for a category, or all products
  • Import products from a CSV file, with a check first
Example screen. Example stock count with full, by category and spot check options, and three products showing the expected figure against the counted figure. Two of them differ.

Questions owners ask.

Does my barcode scanner work?

A scanner that types the code and presses Enter, like a keyboard, works. There is no tested device list.

Can I run more than one till?

Yes. Add a register for each till on the shop's page. Each is opened and closed with its own count.

Can a cashier see my profit?

No. Profit reports are not on a cashier's menu. Reports are for managers and owners, and finance for owners.

Can I load my product list?

Yes. Import it from a CSV file. The app checks the file and shows any bad rows before it saves anything.

Can I split a payment between cash and mobile money?

Not at the till yet. A sale is paid with one method.
